Most days then not, the same question is asked.  Why is uninsured motorist so important?  The answer to that question is simple.  There are still way too many uninsured motorist on the roads these days. According to the Insurance research center 22% of California drivers are uninsured.

Let me share a story with you.  A friend of mine had a nice truck and he thought that as long as he had insurance, basic, at that, he would be okay and when offered uninsured motorist he rejected the option because he thought he would never use it.  Unfortunately, for him, he learned the hard way.  One day driving home from work, he was hit from the side and broke an axel and knocked the tire off of his truck.  When he went to ask for insurance information from the other driver, he was informed that they had no insurance.  Since he had liability only and did not take the option for uninsured motorist his claim was not paid for, and he was at a loss for a vehicle and forced to pay out of pocket for the repairs. Now, if he were to have had uninsured motorist, up to $3500 would have been paid out for his vehicle.

Usually, uninsured motorist’s coverage is fairly inexpensive for your auto insurance policy especially considering the added protection that it offers. Generally, it is anywhere from $10-$20 more a year.  This coverage could pay for your damaged vehicle, medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering in an event of an accident.  It is especially important to have during these economically hard times when many drivers are struggling and may not have insurance or don’t have enough.  By obtaining uninsured motorists, you are giving yourself a peace of mind when driving in the event of an accident.
